AMNI SOUL ECO® is an innovative polyamide 6.6 yarn designed to promote accelerated biodegradation in two different scenarios: at the end of a garment’s life cycle, under the specific conditions of an authorized anaerobic landfill, and, for microfibres potentially released during domestic washing, also in a marine environment, where they can degrade faster compared to traditional synthetic fibres.

AMNI SOUL ECO®

HOW IT WORKS

The technology behind AMNI SOUL ECO® is designed to activate exclusively under the specific conditions found in an anaerobic landfill, where the absence of oxygen promotes microbial activity. In this environment, the special additive integrated into the fibre structure facilitates bacterial access to the polymer matrix, promoting biofilm formation and accelerating the biodegradation process.

Laboratory tests conducted according to ASTM D5511 demonstrate that AMNI SOUL ECO® can biodegrade faster than traditional synthetic fibres when disposed of under anaerobic landfill conditions. Furthermore, according to ASTM E1963, the by-products generated during the biodegradation process mainly consist of organic compounds, without the release of toxic substances harmful to humans or the environment.

The microfibres of AMNI SOUL ECO® potentially released during normal domestic washing cycles also show faster degradation in a marine environment compared to conventional polyamide microfibres and not only, helping to reduce their persistence in marine ecosystems-ASTM D6691.

Lightweight

With AMNI SOUL ECO®, it is possible to create lightweight fabrics suitable for fashion, intimate apparel, and sportswear applications, while maintaining the typical performance characteristics of polyamide.

 

Moisture Management

AMNI SOUL ECO® provides effective moisture management properties thanks to its polyamide base, helping to keep the skin feeling fresh and dry during wear.

 

Strength and Dyeing Performance

Fabrics and garments made with AMNI SOUL ECO® maintain colour fastness and dyeing performance levels comparable to those achieved with virgin polyamide, without requiring significant changes to standard dyeing processes.

AMNI SOUL ECO® YARN TECHNOLOGY

AMNI SOUL ECO® is an innovative yarn designed to combine the outstanding textile performance of polyamide 6.6 with an advanced accelerated biodegradation technology.

Developed by the Rhodia-Solvay Group and produced by FULGAR, AMNI SOUL ECO® integrates a special technology that promotes fibre biodegradation under specific conditions, while maintaining the typical performance properties of the garment during use.

According to tests conducted in compliance with ASTM D5511 and ASTM D6691 standards, compared to conventional synthetic fibres, AMNI SOUL ECO® can biodegrade up to 10 times faster in anaerobic landfill conditions. Furthermore, microfibres potentially released during domestic washing cycles can degrade up to 20 times faster in a marine environment.

It can be used to study the environmental impact of either a product or the function the product is designed to perform, identifying and quantifying the environmental loads involved; e.g. the energy and raw materials consumed and the emissions generated. Also, evaluating the potential environmental impacts of these loads allow assessing the options available for reducing these environmental impacts.

Anaerobic High Solids Biodegradability, ASTM D6691

ASTM D6691 - Standard Test Method for Determining Aerobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials in the Marine Environment by a Defined Microbial Consortium or Natural Sea Water Inoculum.

This is an aqueous aerobic biodegradability test that determines the degree and rate of aerobic biodegradation of plastic materials in seawater. Biodegradation is followed by measuring the evolution of CO2 using a suitable, analytical method.
