Q-CYCLE BY FULGAR®

Q-CYCLE BY FULGAR®

Polyamide 6.6 yarn from end-of-life tires through a mass balance approach

The production of Q-CYCLE® by Fulgar transforms end-of-life tires into a secondary raw material for innovative textile materials dedicated to the fashion and apparel industry.

This sustainable polyamide 6.6 yarn helps reduce the use of fossil resources and CO2 emissions while maintaining the high quality and technical performance of conventional polyamide.

Thanks to a mass balance approach, Q-CYCLE® represents an innovative solution for apparel brands and textile companies looking for high-performance textile materials with attributed recycled content.

Q-CYCLE BY FULGAR®

WHAT IS Q-CYCLE?

Q-CYCLE® is a polyamide 6.6 yarn developed through the interaction between BASF’s ChemCycling® project and Fulgar’s textile expertise and experience.

ChemCycling® uses pyrolysis to replace fossil raw materials with a secondary raw material derived from the chemical recycling of end-of-life tires. Through a third-party certified mass balance approach, the proportion of recycled material is attributed to the final product while maintaining the same properties as conventional polyamide.

The result is Q-CYCLE®, an innovative polyamide 6.6 yarn in which 100% of the raw material required for production is replaced by pyrolysis oil derived from end-of-life tires and attributed according to the mass balance approach.

This yarn combines lightness, resistance, durability and aesthetic quality in a solution designed for high-quality fabrics and a wide range of textile and fashion applications. Q-CYCLE® can be processed like a traditional polyamide and can be easily integrated into existing production processes and combined with other yarns.

TECHNICAL PROPERTIES

Versatility

Q-CYCLE® by Fulgar is a yarn suitable for different textile applications. It can be processed as easily as traditional polyamide and is compatible with other fibers and yarns.

Breathability

Q-CYCLE® by Fulgar offers good moisture management properties, helping keep the skin cool and dry during garment use.

Consistent quality and processes

Fabrics and garments made with Q-CYCLE® by Fulgar maintain fastness levels comparable to those achieved with virgin polyamide, ensuring continuity in dyeing and production processes without significant variations.

MASS BALANCE APPROACH

Mass balance is an accounting system used to calculate and attribute the amount of recycled raw material introduced at the beginning of the production process, even when recycled and virgin materials are combined along the supply chain.

In the case of Q-CYCLE® by Fulgar, this approach makes it possible to attribute to the polyamide 6.6 yarn the secondary raw material derived from the chemical recycling of end-of-life tires while maintaining the technical, aesthetic and functional properties required by the textile and fashion industry.

The correspondence between the amount of recycled material introduced into the process and the amount attributed to finished products is verified by independent auditors according to recognized certification schemes.

Q-CYCLE BY FULGAR®

Q-CYCLE® in textile and fashion brand projects

Over the years, Q-CYCLE® has been selected by textile companies and fashion brands for projects focused on material innovation, technical performance and the integration of recycled raw materials into textile supply chains.

The yarn has been used, for example, by Pontetorto for the development of technical fabrics dedicated to the apparel sector, while Albini Studio integrated Q-CYCLE® into collections focused on textile experimentation and innovative solutions for the fashion industry.

Q-CYCLE® has also been used by Ferrari in the development of garments and accessories for apparel collections, demonstrating the versatility of the yarn in applications requiring aesthetic quality, production continuity and technical performance comparable to traditional polyamide.

Projects developed together with Pompea further demonstrate the use of Q-CYCLE® within textile supply chains focused on innovation and the integration of materials derived from chemical recycling processes through a mass balance approach.

OEKO-TEX® STD 100 CLASS I appendix 6

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is an independent and uniform control and certification system at an international level for raw materials, semi-finished and finished products in the textile sector at every level of processing, as well as for the accessory materials used. Thanks to its decades of experience, STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® helps to guarantee high and effective product safety from the consumer's point of view.

RCS from TEXTILE EXCHANGE

The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) is a certification promoted by Textile Exchange, one of the most important international non-profit organisations for responsible and sustainable development in the textile sector. The standard recognises the importance of recycling for the growth of a sustainable production and consumption model, with the aim of reducing the consumption of resources (virgin raw materials, water and energy). The certification provides for the issue of an environmental declaration, verified by a third party, which guarantees the content of recycled materials in products, both intermediate and finished, and the maintenance of traceability throughout the production process, from the recycling of materials, through the subsequent manufacturing phases, to the labelling of the finished product.

ISCC

ISCC PLUS allows you to demonstrate, through a management system, the traceability and sustainability of raw materials, intermediate products and final products of the supply chains of: production of food products, for feed, technical/chemical, bio-based, supply chains of biomass production for energy applications. The standard has sustainability and traceability as its basic requirements.

LCA certification for textiles

LCA

LCA is a process of evaluating the effects that a product has on the environment over the entire period of its life thereby increasing resource-use efficiency and decreasing liabilities. It can be used to study the environmental impact of either a product or the function the product is designed to perform, identifying and quantifying the environmental loads involved; e.g. the energy and raw materials consumed and the emissions generated. Also, evaluating the potential environmental impacts of these loads allow assessing the options available for reducing these environmental impacts.
